Earlier today, Occupy Wall Street took to the streets to commemorate the 2 month anniversary of the protest in a “Day of Action”. This morning, occupiers tried to block off access to the New York Stock Exchange in order to prevent the market from opening. They did not succeed. My mother, who works in the area, told me that at a few points this morning, the protests around the stock exchange became violent with the police.
This afternoon, around 3pm, the occupied moved to selected areas around the city including Brooklyn’s Borough Hall Plaza. I was on the scene. In fact, Colin Campbell of The Brooklyn Politics blog used a photo I tweeted of the protest in a blog post.
As the various protests broke up, the occupiers took to the subways, hoping to congest the system.
Meanwhile, at around 4pm, occupiers marched across the Brooklyn Bridge from Foley Square in Manhattan. As they exited the bridge footpath, at around 7:45, they started to converge in Cadman Plaza Park in Brooklyn. I live right across the street from the park, so I went to participate and take some photos and videos. I must say that the protest was very peaceful. Cops were on the scene just in case. But, the most violent thing I saw was an impromptu game of tag on the soccer field.
Colin Campbell tweeted that I had the “goldmine of BK’s Cadman Plaza Park #OWS protest video footage.” I’ll let you decide for yourselves. The playlist of the videos I recorded are below.

Tomorrow night, our wonderful Borough President Marty Markowitz will be giving his annual State of the Borough Address live from Sunset Park High School.
Last year, Brooklyn Young Democrats President Amanda Pizzuti and myself both attended Marty’s State of the Borough Address (which, that year, was tied in with his re-swearing in ceremony). I can say that it was a fantastic time filled with humor, calls for action, and highlights and stories of all of the things that makes Brooklyn the borough it is.
The speech will be broadcast live on BCAT (Time Warner Cable channel 56, Cablevision channel 69, and RCN channel 84 for subscribers in Brooklyn and in all five boroughs on Verizon FiOS channel 44). You can also watch it live online at http://bricartsmedia.org/bitspecials.
The festivities will start tomorrow night (February 3, 2011) at 6:30 PM.
